BitAxe Enclosure Design
Transforming a raw industrial tool into a sleek conversation starter for your living room.
Overview
Bitaxe is an open-source Bitcoin miner built for the community — but its raw circuit board look keeps most people from ever putting one on their desk. This project reimagines the Bitaxe as a product you'd actually want to own: a sleek, displayable device that fits into a modern home while still doing serious mining work. The redesigned shell is 3D-printable, so anyone in the community can make one.

The design was made with 3D printability in mind to keep the open-source spirit of Bitaxe alive, so anyone can print one at home, but it's also ready for mass production when the time comes.
01
Challenge
The Bitaxe is powerful, but it looks like a science experiment. Most people interested in Bitcoin and home mining are turned off by the exposed PCB aesthetic — it signals "for engineers only." The hardware deserved a shell that attracts people's attention.
02
Solution
I redesigned the enclosure from scratch with two goals: better looks and nice thermals. The new shell allows airflow across the board, and the exterior design has clean lines, intentional proportions, and a finish that works in any room. The files are open-source and 3D-printable.
03
Result
A Bitaxe that sits on your desk like a premium gadget, not a prototype. It's a conversation starter that brings Bitcoin mining into everyday spaces — making decentralization feel accessible, not intimidating.

What Made This Special
Most miner mods optimize for performance. This one optimized for people.
By treating the Bitaxe as a designed object and not just a functional device, this project lowers the barrier for anyone curious about running their own node and joining the Bitcoin network.
